Google Analytics Explained

Web Analytics. What is it?

Tesfaye Leta - Wednesday, August 05, 2009

Web analytics is an act of collecting information and data on line and processing it to something useful.  A typical application would be monitoring  traffic to a website.  A code will be placed in the coding of the web pages so that data is recorded every time a visit happens.  Web analytics is becoming an integral part of website and email management. A business would have a purpose for having a website :  Selling products on line, Introducing a new product, presenting a brochure or literature on a break through, or advertise it products and services whether just organically or via search engine marketing. There is no way of knowing how competitive the website is without some sort of a feedback. There is where a robust web anlaytics tool such as Google analytics comes in handy.
There are thousand of web analytics programs offered through out the web.  Some are free some have a small price.  However, they all have one goal - revealing activities on a web page.  One exceptional and user friendly web analyics too is Google analytics, it is not only free, it gives a very powerful insight  The collected data and the report includes :

  • number of visitors
  • number of visits
  • visitors location
  • duration on a page
  • bounce rates
  • number of pages viewed
  • traffic through paid search
  • traffic through non-paid search
  • referring websites
  • and more ....   Some tools actually report the IP address of the source of traffic.  Web analytics is and excellent insight about the quality of the content for internet marketing professionals.  If a bounce rate on a specific page it too high, it would mean a correction is due either in the content, the presentation, or the key words.  if there is tons of traffic with out a purchase or a subscription or a conversion of some sort, then there is something seriously wrong about the structure and architecture of the website.  Get your analytics today or we do it for you !
